William Buckley was a convict who took passage aboard the HMS Calcutta, which landed at Victoria's first penal settlement, Sullivans Bay Sorrento in 1803. William Buckley escaped and for thirty two years lived on the shores of port phillip bay. his ability to survive against almost impossible odds is thought to have coined the phrase "buckleys chance".
We take great pleasure in naming our restaurant after this survivor and we hope you take pleasure in dining with the owners, fred and pam, who have successfully survived over thirty years hard labour here at buckleys chance.
